Welcome
THIS IS A SAFE PLACE
WHAT
IS THE
SOUTH ASIAN FEMINIST?
The South Asian Feminist is a project that brings awareness to the lack of feminism in South Asian communities and encourages reformation by questioning long standing tradition.
Feminism is still a work in progress in many South Asian communities, but as a South Asian woman, I believe it is imperative to open up this discussion. The South Asian diaspora is not only increasing but changing with the advent of travel and immigration, which is why it is so important to have a sense of family and community within ourselves. We need to build a stronger sisterhood among South Asian women. I also ask our South Asian brothers, fathers, and other male figures to understand and participate.
This platform is a place for me to spread my knowledge about feminism while simultaneously gaining some. I want to explore the relationship between feminism and South Asian culture, which can mean indulging into conversations that have been deemed taboo and controversial. But, knowledge is indeed power. If we want to see change we have to start somewhere and I hope this is one of the places it can begin...
