"This project explores the influences of patriarchal traditions on the practice of dowry and its effects on South Asian women. The South Asian countries discussed are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. By analyzing domestic violence, murder, and honor killings, I argue that in order to empower women and eradicate patriarchal domination in South Asian societies, the dowry system must be abolished...The dowry system is an outdated tradition that needs to be broken in order for South Asian women to gain full autonomy."
